How much interaction do fifth grade students have with students of differentgrade levels?Zero to none. The fifth grade students are kept on the first floor. There are, at this time (4/21) 3 sixth grade classes on that floor, but all 7th and 8th grade classes are on the upper level.
Do all students have access to PE? Yes. Band and string students go to PE once a week.
Are fifth graders chaperoned from class to class? Fifth graders are chaperoned everywhere.
What does “Related Arts” mean?The Related Arts include PE, band , strings, computer and art.
What are arrival and dismissal policies? Policies and procedures are discussed in the Head Student Handbook and the Metro Code of Conduct. Students arrive in class at 7:30 A.M. and we start dismissal at 2:45 P.M. There are no teachers on duty after 3:00 P.M. and all car riders should be picked up by then. MTA riders are admitted and dismissed by the 20th Avenue exit.
Do they change classes, and, if so, how often? Students do change classes; however, we try to keep changes to a minimum. Information will be coming home once the school year starts and schedules are in place.
What are the policies for parent volunteers and visits? Parents are encouraged to volunteer and visit. However, we request advance notice for observations and all volunteers must check in at the office.
What about advanced classes for higher academic achieving students? How will my child be placed? Advanced classes are available. Students are placed based on TCAP achievement scores.
